Accessories Shopping

It is well known to even the most naive of fashionistas that accessories can make an outfit. Imagine a birthday cake without candles; it doesn’t have the same effect as a festive enjoyment, does it? The candles are the finishing touch, the last thought, but are nevertheless utterly defining. The same concept applies to accessories.

There are two different reasons you may find yourself accessories shopping. Firstly, you may have found a new outfit and feel the need to complete it by buying matching accessories. Secondly, you may just like accessories and be looking for something general that you can mix and match with various ensembles. Whatever the reason, the general principal is the same.

The key to accessories is to know when to stop. While you may find an amazing ring, stunning necklace, gorgeous hat, sumptuous scarf, delicate belt and beautiful gloves, you may want to wear them all together, but this doesn’t mean you should. Ideally, three accessories are enough, or you crowd the eye and over complicate the outfit.

Accessories are extremities; they are either dominant, making and completing the outfit as they demand attention, or they are submissive and complimentary. Decide what type of look you are trying to achieve when it comes to accessories shopping, as they will help the process hugely. If your planned outfit is plain and one or two colored, then go for show stopping accessories which have a loud voice of their own. Chunky and bright accessories work effortlessly here, creating highlights to what could be a dull outfit without them.

For complimentary accessories, shop with a particular outfit in mind. Try and match colors, though an exact match ? a red bangle and belt for a red dress outfit ? is unnecessary. Instead, opt for colors that compliment; there are numerous color wheels in books and on the Internet that show exactly what colors go with which, so do use them if you aren’t sure. For that aforementioned red dress, for example, bold colors such as blacks, whites and metallics are best.

It can be easy to get carried away when accessories shopping, and come home having purchased things that are of no use and you will never wear. Make sure accessories match your style and outfits and work either as the final cherry on top or as part of the outfit. With these key concepts in mind, accessories shopping should be a doddle.
